About GGBGC

Good Guys Bad Guys Contractors — protecting homeowners across Canada 🇨🇦 and the USA 🇺🇸 from contractor fraud, negligence, and scams.

🏠 Our Mission

GGBGC was founded by homeowners who experienced contractor fraud firsthand. We lost thousands of dollars to contractors who took our money and disappeared, did shoddy work, or simply never showed up.

We built this platform because we believe sunlight is the best disinfectant. When communities share their experiences openly, bad actors can no longer simply move on to their next victim. Every report you submit protects the next homeowner.

💡 Tips for Hiring Contractors
📋

Get Multiple Quotes

Always get at least 3 quotes before hiring. If one is drastically cheaper, be cautious.

🔍

Search GGBGC First

Before hiring anyone, search their name and company on GGBGC to check for past reports.

📜

Verify Their License

Ask for their contractor license number and verify it with your province or state registry.

🛡️

Check Insurance

Always confirm they carry liability insurance and WSIB/Workers Comp before work begins.

✍️

Get It in Writing

Never pay without a signed contract that lists the scope, timeline, and total price.

💰

Limit Your Deposit

Never pay more than 10–15% upfront. Pay the rest only when the work is completed.

📸 What Proof to Upload

Strong evidence helps your report get approved faster and makes it more helpful to others.

✅ Good Evidence

  • ✅ Photos of poor quality work
  • ✅ Screenshots of text/email conversations
  • ✅ Copies of contracts or invoices
  • ✅ Before and after photos
  • ✅ Receipts and payment records
  • ✅ Written quotes vs actual charges
  • ✅ Video of incomplete or damaged work

❌ Not Acceptable

  • ❌ Photos of people's faces
  • ❌ License plates or vehicle photos
  • ❌ Personal identification documents
  • ❌ Banking or credit card information
  • ❌ Photos of children
  • ❌ Unrelated personal information
  • ❌ Screenshots of social media profiles
📋 What You Can and Cannot Share About a Contractor

GGBGC is about holding businesses accountable — not exposing individuals. This distinction is critical. Here is exactly what is and is not allowed when filing a report.

✅ You CAN Share

  • ✅ Business or company name
  • ✅ Business location / city and province or state
  • ✅ Business phone number listed publicly
  • ✅ Business website or business email
  • ✅ Trade type (roofer, electrician, plumber, etc.)
  • ✅ What work was hired for and what went wrong
  • ✅ Amount paid and amount lost
  • ✅ Photos of the work, damage, or incomplete job
  • ✅ Copies of signed contracts and invoices
  • ✅ Screenshots of job-related text or email conversations

🚫 You CANNOT Share

  • 🚫 Personal home address
  • 🚫 Personal cell phone number
  • 🚫 Personal email address
  • 🚫 Social media profiles or personal accounts
  • 🚫 Photos of the contractor's face
  • 🚫 Photos of personal vehicles or license plates
  • 🚫 Social Insurance Number (SIN) or Social Security Number (SSN)
  • 🚫 Driver's license or any government ID
  • 🚫 Information about family members
  • 🚫 Anything about their personal life unrelated to the job
⚠️

Doxxing is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal of your report and a permanent ban. Sharing someone's personal home address, personal phone number, or private identifying information — even if you believe they wronged you — is considered doxxing. It puts people at risk of harassment and may expose you to criminal or civil liability. If you are unsure whether something is personal or business information, leave it out.

📏 Community Guidelines
🚫

No Doxxing — Ever

Never post a contractor's personal home address, personal phone number, personal email, social media accounts, or any private identifying information. GGBGC reports are about business conduct, not personal exposure. Violations result in permanent bans and report removal.

🚫

No Hate, Threats, or Harassment

Keep every report factual and professional. No slurs, threats, discriminatory language, or personal attacks. Reports targeting a person's race, religion, gender, or appearance will be removed immediately, regardless of the legitimacy of the underlying complaint.

🚫

No False or Exaggerated Claims

Report only what actually happened. Do not fabricate incidents, inflate dollar amounts, or attribute work to a contractor you cannot verify. False reports expose you to legal action and undermine the platform for everyone.

Focus on Business Conduct Only

A report should describe the job, what went wrong, and the financial or property impact. Critique the work quality and business practices — not the person's appearance, background, or personal life. The goal is to help other homeowners make informed decisions, not to punish someone personally.

One Report Per Incident

Submit one report per contractor incident. Multiple reports for the same job will be merged or removed. If you have a new incident with the same contractor at a later date, that may be submitted as a separate report.

You Are Responsible for What You Post

By submitting a report you confirm that your account of events is truthful to the best of your knowledge. GGBGC does not verify individual claims, but we cooperate fully with legal processes and reserve the right to remove any content at our discretion. See our Legal Disclaimer for full details.

⚖️ Dispute Process

If you're a contractor and believe a report about you is false or inaccurate, you can request a review through our dispute process.

1

Submit a dispute request with your full name, company name, and the URL of the report you are disputing.

2

Provide evidence supporting your position — such as a signed contract, completion photos, or communication records.

3

Our team reviews both sides within 10 business days and makes a final determination.

4

If your dispute is upheld, the report will be removed or amended. You may also submit a public response to be posted alongside the original report.
